Physiotherapy Prices in Southampton
What Do Our Physiotherapy Sessions Include?
Every appointment at Southampton Physio begins with a thorough assessment of what is happening, why it is happening, and what will help. Whether you are booking for an acute injury, a recurring issue, or a complex long-term problem, your session includes a full clinical assessment, hands-on treatment where appropriate, and a clear exercise and self-management plan to take away.
We do not just treat the symptom in front of us. We work to understand the load, the pattern, and the person â so that each session builds toward something lasting, not just relief on the day.

What Is the Difference Between a Senior and Junior Clinician?
Every junior clinician at Southampton Physio works under the direct supervision of a senior clinician. That means your care is reviewed, supported, and quality-checked at every stage â whoever you book with.
If you have a preference for a specific clinician, or a more complex presentation that benefits from a senior’s direct involvement from the outset, booking a senior appointment makes sense. But if you are looking for excellent care at a slightly lower fee, a junior appointment delivers exactly that.
Which Appointment Should I Book?
For most people booking for the first time, either tier will give you everything you need. As a rough guide:
- Book a junior appointment if you have a straightforward musculoskeletal issue, are returning after a gap in treatment, or want to keep costs down without any compromise on care quality.
- Book a senior appointment if you have a complex, persistent, or multi-layered presentation, have already seen several practitioners without clear progress, or simply prefer to work directly with a more experienced clinician from session one.
What Are the Clinical Personal Training Block Packages?
Clinical Personal Training at Southampton Physio is expert-led strength coaching designed to build confidence, resilience, and lasting strength. Sessions are delivered by physiotherapists or sports therapists with advanced rehabilitation expertise, and every programme is tailored to your goals, injury history, and starting point.
CPT is available in pre-paid blocks only. Blocks of four sessions must be used within three months; blocks of twelve within six months.
Frequently Asked Questions About Physiotherapy Fees in Southampton
Does physiotherapy cost the same for every condition?
The appointment fee is the same regardless of the condition you are being seen for. What varies is the number of sessions you are likely to need, which depends on the complexity and duration of the problem. Your clinician will give you a realistic picture of this at your first appointment.
How many sessions will I need?
Most people with a straightforward musculoskeletal issue see meaningful progress within three to six sessions. More complex or persistent conditions may take longer. We will not keep you coming back beyond the point where it is genuinely useful â your clinician will set out a clear plan from the start, and review it with you as you go.
Is physiotherapy covered by private health insurance?
Many private medical insurance policies cover physiotherapy. You will usually need a policy number and pre-authorisation from your insurer before your first appointment. We recommend checking your policy details directly with your insurer, as terms vary. If you are using insurance, let us know when you book.
Do I need a GP referral to book?
No. You can book directly without a referral. If your insurer requires a GP referral, that is between you and your insurer â we do not require one from our side.
What is your cancellation policy?
We ask for at least 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or rearrange. Cancellations with less than 24 hours’ notice may be charged at the full session fee. Full details are in our terms and conditions.
How do I pay?
Payment is taken at the time of booking. We accept card payments online and in the clinic. If you are paying via insurance, please bring your authorisation details with you.
What is the difference between physiotherapy and sports massage?
Physiotherapy involves a full clinical assessment and a treatment plan tailored to your specific problem â it is the right choice if you want to understand what is happening and address the underlying cause. Sports massage is a hands-on soft tissue treatment that works well for muscle tension, recovery, and maintenance. Some patients use both, at different points in their care.
Can I book a sports massage without being an existing patient?
Yes. You do not need to have had a physiotherapy appointment first. Book your sports massage directly online or call us on 02381 102077.

âI started treatment with Southampton Physio following an acute knee injury. 100% recommend their service and treatment approach.
I ruptured my ACL playing football and was previously fit and well. My NHS consultant explained that I might have a lengthy wait for treatment and prehab could help me regain mobility and boost my chances of a successful ACL reconstruction (still waiting on the list.. 7 months on). At the time I was on crutches and could barely walk, let alone run or cycle.
After seven months under Ian’s care I’m extremely pleased with the results: I’m now back on the bike for commuting and most of the time, by working on the physio exercises Ian trains me in, have good mobility (though no running til after my op sadly).
In particular these plus points stand out:
– No-pressure, up-front and ethical approach.
– Flexible treatment planning, eg once my joint stabilised, they suggested I drop from weekly workout to monthly monitoring sessions as it was in my financial interest(!)
– Whole-body and multi-disciplinary expertise means that when I developed secondary back problems owing to my unbalanced gait, they were able to inclusively address that with additional exercises and some chiropractic therapy. I’d never had a chiropractic manipulation before and was a little apprehensive, but Ian explained the procedure, outcomes, and risks, and we kept it light and simple. I felt happy to do it and it improved my back.
– Flexible scheduling and near city centre / Uni
All in all a great experience from a trustworthy and effective team. Recommend.â – Joe Parker
